Penn State Nittany Lions: 2018 Season Preview

The Nittany Lions, fresh of a Fiesta Bowl victory in 2017, are hungry for more in 2018. With the loss of Saquon Barkley, it is obvious Penn State’s offense will take a blow. However, RB’s Mike Sanders and Ricky Slade are in the wings ready to make up for Saquon’s loss this season and will be key to maintaining the flow of the offense. Returning starting QB Trace McSorley will most likely be the key to a successful season. After an outstanding performance in 2017, McSorley will need to step up even more if the offense wants to retain its fierceness. After a lackluster showing in 2017, the offensive line will return 4 starters, hoping to heavily improve and will need to show this in order for the less talented RB’s to have room to run. On the defensive side of the ball, the Nittany Lions will lose their entire secondary, both tackles, as well as the top linebackers. They will be looking to rely on CB John Reid who missed last season due to injury, but presents great potential to lead the defense. James Franklin’s squad will need to get off to a fast start in 2018 as Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, and Wisconsin await in conference play. Fortunately, three of these games come at home and a key placed bye week will play to the advantage of the Nittany Lions in 2018, who are expecting nothing less than a trip to Indianapolis.
